This gorgeous 1977 Camaro restomod makes one wonder why the second-gen hasn’t caught fire like its predecessor.
The second-generation Chevy Camaro has long lived somewhat in the shadows of its predecessor, which is quite common in the world of automobiles. However, most of us around these parts have a soft spot for this particular model, which we think looks amazing and has tons of potential in terms of serving up a blank canvas for creating something extra special. Case in point – this 1977 Camaro restomod that’s going up for grabs at Mecum’s upcoming Houston auction, which is scheduled to take place April 13-15.Whoever put this masterful creation together clearly had a vision for doing so, and it turned out about as perfectly as one might imagine – in fact, if we were to dream up the perfect 1977 Camaro restomod, this would likely be pretty close. For example, the exterior of this second-gen is a master class in restraint, as it retains all of the car’s original character, albeit with smooth lines, shiny black paint, and a light gray hood with red striping.
The previous owner did upgrade the lighting to LED units and added a set of 18-inch ESR polished wheels wrapped with Toyo Proxes tires, which gives the car a modern look without going overboard with wheels that are too big or tacking on silly things like widebody fenders, which just aren’t necessary. The results of that carefully curated work, well, they speak for themselves. The same goes for the super sanitary interior, which is finished in custom black leather with plenty of carbon fiber, Braum racing bucket seats, Modern Marshall gauges, and a kickin’ stereo system.
This 1977 Camaro restomod isn’t just powered by some old engine either, as it’s now equipped with a 5.3-liter LS that’s force fed by a single turbo, though unfortunately, the listing doesn’t provide any additional information about mods or even output. Regardless, the newer V8 is mated to an automatic gearbox, while the suspension has been modified and the stock brakes replaced with four wheel discs and four-piston Brembo front calipers.
With looks that kill, a comfy cabin, and a capable powertrain, this second-gen Camaro is the perfect example of why we should see more cars precisely like it in the future. After all, first-gen Camaros are pretty pricey these days, but its successor can still be had for reasonable money – at least until folks start seeing its true potential.
